what do you do on linux?

I've got myself Ubuntu 7.10 working perfectly, however im stumped as to what to do on it! I installed it for the novelty of being able to say i use Linux, however so far it just seems a little more basic compared to ms windows, for starters i can't game on linux and video quality is a bit dodgy too and thats without talking about the lack of support! So what advantages are there from it?

hmm, i didn't realize vlc was on Linux, thats good news! also, is there any software that is similar to speed fan, as i normally lower my CPU fan to 80% in windows to stop the rattling that occurs at any higher. Also when i boot Linux the splash screen changed from Ubuntu to kubuntu when i installed the KDE GUI, how do i change it back?

Open a terminal and paste
sudo update-alternatives --config usplash-artwork.so
Select the one you want.

no alternatives apparently!
