I have just realised you can freeze most things, much food wastage before. Tomatoes(and most veg) are apparently great for freezing as are a lot of fruit. To top it off you apparently use less electricity the fuller your freezer is as the cold air has less free room to travel.

I buy fresh carrots, chop them and freeze into portions. Both for convenience and shelf life.

I usually make large portions of eg spag bol, stew, chilli etc and freeze into portions.

What ever has been made in the slow cooker or if I've made a chilli or curry.

We tend to freeze veg/fruit as we'll buy some carrots, sprouts or pineapple and portion it out.

Pastry freezes well too.

Quick tip if you buy mince to freeze, seal it in a freezer bag and then flatten it out so it's like a tablet, makes it a hell of a lot easier to store and also it defrosts loads quicker.

Most things, meat, fish, all kinds of bread, cake, bakery cookies, some fruits, batch cooked food etc.

Cakes & cookies are usually more moist after freezing :cool:

Apart from the usual curries, chili's etc that I make in big batches and freeze in the aluminium foil trays (can be thrown straight in an oven and cooked from frozen) pizza dough freezes well (just bung in the fridge in the morning and take out the fridge half an hour before cooking) as well as leftovers of stuff for toppings for the pizzas (pulled pork, duck confit, mozzarella, onions, etc).

Milk - always useful to have some in the freezer, especially with toddlers.

Freeze any leftovers from big stews/pies etc., h OK me made soups., fresh meat that has a poor shelf life.

Most things can be frozen, even cheese!

Bread, for those "ah I'd love some toast but we've ran out... no we haven't" moments.

Some stranger things too;
- meat scraps that would go into the bin and turn into a foul smelling bag within hours, I pop that into the freezer and take it out when I throw the bins out
- jeans, trying an experiment where I heard jeans can last longer if you freeze to clean

Great minds :D

Oddly, or perhaps not, I try to keep my bin(s), clean/tidy so that they don't smell and don't become a chore to empty and periodically have to deep clean. :)

Inb4 it's a bin what are you doing.

Pretty much anything: meat, vegetables, bread, milk, eggs, fruit, stews, curries, souops, stock, leftovers, lasagna, sauces, pies, cheese, ham, salami.

You can store left over vegetables and meat scraps to turn into awesome stock. i also sometimes buy cheap cooking wine and divy up into 1-2 cup portions, simply take it out and throw in your coq au vin.

TBH, eaiseier to list what doesn't freeze: Fresh spinach, kale, lettuce etc.

bread items for shelf life, I also find Bagels are better toasted from frozen as you get a lovely crisp outside and soft inside.

I buy meat in bulk then portion it and freeze it, frozen veg are handy as is cooked rice.

I did bulk up and pre prepare a load of meals for work, worked out about 70p each for a takeaway tub full of stuff but they took up so much room in the freezer I wont be doing it again.

Loads of stuff, but most useful;

  • Breadcrumbs
  • Stock (from chicken roast mostly)
  • Peas
  • Decent raw prawns
  • Leftover ragu sauce
  • Sausages (amazing market stall does 3lb for the price of 2)

It's amazing what you can rustle up if you always have the above.
