What do you look for in a monitor?

So what do you personally look for in a monitor?

Size?
A particular brand you favour?
Resolution, refresh rate, ratio?

I'm looking to buy a second monitor, one screen can be a real pain sometimes, and I'm really just stuck when it comes to monitors.
So having people give their opinions might give me some ideas.

All I have in mind is "21:9 would be nice" :)

Thanks

1. Size and pixel density of at least 108
2. Reasonable price, like everyone else
3. Design, cause most of the monitors out there look like black bars of soap (with the exception of a few)

Not too fussed about rich feature list (OSD or inputs) as long as there are the main ones.
Not too fused about hardware calibration since I'd do that myself anyway.

Just for the love of God stop making these dull, depressing black slabs with such depressing design. I sit in front of monitors 10 hours a day easily, I think my eyes deserve a little candy :)

I usually buy 2 monitors - one image quality over everything else and the other HAS to be 120Hz with low input lag, etc. and colours that are at least vaguely accurate enough so as not to be glaring objectionable. 1920x1080 and 2560x1440 are both fine with me, while 4K is nice to have it wouldn't choose it exclusively at the expense of 1 of the other 2.

A semi decent OSD helps a lot, not generally too bothered about inputs or viewing angles as long as they are half reasonable.

Not that bothered by brand but Samsung have mostly been the best for me and BenQ frustrates me as they usually have nice feature set, nice build quality but image quality you just can't get quite right as they seem to pitch most of their monitors at the mass market with bright and vivid at the expense of more subtle detail.

Size: The bigger the better really
Resolution: The higher the better
Refresh Rate: Would be nice if we start seeing 120hz as standard
Design: Nice thin bezels are the best with Vesa mounts

Resolution, IQ and price are my usual factors, but my next monitor will also have to include FreeSync and be 3440x1440 or over.

I like Dell as the customer service is top notch.

120Hz
Low input lag
Strobing backlight/blur reduction.
Colours and viewing angles matching that of Plasma/CRT.

Still waiting for it to be made :(.

I'm used to a 32" TV as a monitor now, so I have to have at least 32" minimum.

1. 32" or larger (40" max due to small room)
2. Good colour reproduction at almost every angle, IPS seems to be the only choice so far.
3. Zero to an extremely tiny amount of backlight bleeding.

Quite interested in the 21:9 screens, they look stunning for games and films. Keeping an eye out of OLED TV's/monitors at least 32" to 40" max at a decent price (around £600 preferably). Think I may be waiting a while for this one :(

My perfect screen would be a 21:9, 3440x1440 using OLED with a £500 or below price tag :)

I'm with you on that, I did have the AOC Q2770Pqu, and although a great monitor I prefer the design of the pc at work, a £109 veiwsonic!

I'd stick with a brand that does monitors and not monitors and everything else - like samsung for example.
