Just interested to see peoples opinions on the following spec.
I'm going to use the machine mostly for gaming as well as general MS office etc and other applications e.g. MATLAB.

I put a 750W PSU in because I may crossfire at a later date.
Is the 1Tb Samsung better than the WD version in the same way that people reckon the 500Gb version is?

*OVERCLOCKED* Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz @ 4.00GHz Max / Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58 Motherboard / Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz DDR3 Bundle £649.99

Options applied to the above product:
4.00GHz Overclock £17.24

Samsung SM2443BW 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor £249.99

Asus ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £208.99

Antec P193 Super-Midi Tower - Gun Metal Black (No PSU) £139.99

Corsair TX 750W ATX SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-750TXUK) £95.99

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) £61.99

Total : £1,440.85

At that budget, i don't think you should be overspending on the CPU/Mobo/Etc. when you have a large enough amount of cash to put into things like an SSD or a better Graphics card, such as the 5870.
going socket 1156 i7 would be one alternative an wouldn't be much of a performance drop if you overclock it yourself.

Though at the moment that spec is pretty good considering, it just depends upon how you want to allocate your budget.

Is there that much point in a modular PSU when I can just tidy my cables myself?

Reason for the possible overspend on the CPU etc is for future proofing, I know it's all going to be out of date next week but I can give myself the best possible start?

What CPU/mobo etc combination would you suggest that would save me enough to get an SSD?

To be honest a 64Gb SSD isn't worth downgrading the mobo that much in my opinion.

I saw some youtubery of that antec P193 case, it looked very roomy! Whay counts as a big case?
