What do you need in a HTPC?

I'm looking at converting one of my old systems into a HTPC. Does anyone know of any guides on HTPCs? For once, this is my first stop before Google for information, in the hope that someone knows of some decent guides rather than sifting through tons of information...

Only difference between a PC and a htpc is a front end, and remote controlled. Depends what you plan to use the htpc for, music playback won't require much. But video playback and scaling will need a faster machine (especially for HD) You'll want it quiet as possible, so choose passive motherboard and graphics card, quiet PSU, slow case fans, one hard drive etc.
