What do you need to take to an MOT?

Hi,

Quick question really, do you have to take your old MOT certificate when getting your car MOT'ed? Dad says I do but I am not so sure. The reason why I am asking is because my certificate is in Coventry and I am in Loughborough.

Don't need previous certificates, it's all on computers.

Before computers you needed to take the old one if you wanted to post date the MOT to the end of your current certificate.

Why the tax disc? And you don't need proof of anything. Assuming you're referring to when the old MOT has expired, if you are stopped the officer can call the garage and check for himself.

The Tax disk forward slash way to prove pre-booked MOT is for the driving on the road to the MOT bit of the exercise, you need insurance too.

You don't need the tax disc or proof. Plus Saitrix' car has a current MOT anyway.

You need insurance to drive any car, it isn't a requirement of the MOT test

Saitrix - you only need the car, nothing else.

Nobody cares about what you need to drive to the testing station, that isn't the question being asked.

You do not require anything other than the vehicle to have an MOT test performed on your vehicle.

I didn't think they could back-date without the old certificate? Other than that just the car.

Now to fix the many things on it to get it ready for MOT.

Not sure Chris, but it doesn't matter for me as it will only be 1 week before my MOT is due when I come to get it tested. I just hope to see a nice pass on the certificate before the 10th.

With the amount of times people here don't know that it goes Insurance > MOT > Road Tax (or MOT > Insurance > Road Tax); I felt it worth noting.

How about this - You can't get tax without having a valid MOT certificate, so I suppose you can take it to a MOT testing centre even if your vehicle doesn't have tax? (No MOT means you can't buy roadtax?)
