I've got my eye on buying the following car. Ill be paying cash, what do you think I could get discount wise from the dealership?

From the same search I can see 2-3 cars that are exactly the same spec and price but a couple of them have done 18k miles instead of the 30k this one has, is this a good bargaining point? The other cars are miles away so not that keen to drive unless I have too!

Any help thoughts would be appreciated.

Are they awful?! Haha this is why I came to this forum, would you use this as a reason to bargain or simply just reporting on the rubbish tyres...also if you bought the car would you replace these right away?

Quite pricey for a Peugeot that's done nearly 15k miles each year on average? You'd be better off finding a lease deal instead of this as you'll be paying less month on month in depreciation.

Thanks Honeybadger so you wouldn't be too put off by the depreciation and the fact it's a Peugeot....it's won every award under the sun this year...plus has been praised for its dependability?

The price is a little on the high side which is to be expected. One thing to bear in mind based on a bit of googling is the depreciation on the 3008 after 3 years is about 56%.

This if accurate means a three year old car would be around £13,000. In this case you may be better going for a low mileage three year old one to save money and it would last longer mileage wise. Best to do the research and see how the age, mileage and varying prices works best for you. We recently bought a 3 year old Tiguan with 8,000 miles for £15,000 with a 3 year warranty which works well for our needs. The trick is to take your time to find the best deal and the take advantage of it.

I've owned numerous Peugeot's in the past, so no. (Albeit 205 GTi's and 306 GTI-6's!) and I think the current range is pretty decent. In terms of depreciation, it's probably not the best brand, but then I don't really concern myself with such things, as I tend to keep stuff a 5ish years.

If you like it, buy it :)

I'd never have considered a Peugeot until I drove a new 308 on holiday last month. It was miles ahead of the then-new 307 I had as a courtesy car 12 or so years ago - that one was terrible even coming from my Ford Escort!

The 308 was pretty good, though, comically small steering wheel aside. The high depreciation means it's an option for me as a 2nd hand purchase next time I'm in the market.

I like it!
The issue with googling depreciation values of the 3008 is the previous generation (which is truly godawful) does depreciate like a stone, but good PCP residuals on new 3008 SUV's seem to suggest they reasonably hold their value.

IMO it's priced fairly (assuming it has a proper dealer service history so the manufacturers warranty is still valid), and despite the god awful tyres (negotiate a bit off for that) it looks clean enough.

My sister has had the 3008SUV (now on the 5008 SUV), it's lovely to drive, comfortable, modern etc and the toys on it are good. Note the '360' camera is a bit of a con, it only has 1 or 2 cameras (rear only or front/rear) and it just stores images as you drive to 'paint' a 360 style picture, it's nothing like a proper 4 camera syste, but it's probably a touch better than just a reverse camera..

shocked it's only got a 1.2 engine... seems like a lot of weight for a 1.2 to shift round

Not much different to a 1.0 Mondeo (though I'd not want one of those, either!). OP I'd personally want lower miles and decent tyres for that price. I'd say keep shopping, but if for some reason it has to be that one bargain hard. I'd want the price lowering to reflect the mileage commensurate to other examples, proper rubber all round, and a full tank. Don't ask, you're the one with the money to spend. Just tell them that's what you're willing to pay and those are the terms. They won't like it but if they say no, just leave your number and tell them they know where to find you if they change their minds, as you have some Fords and VWs to look at in the meantime... Keep it friendly of course, but remember you're the customer and it's your cash they want - they're doing you no favours.

Guys thank you for all the advice, invaluable for a complete novice like me when it comes to buying a car. @Rainmaker your last message was really useful. I think I need to drop the idea of getting an auto as it opens up loads more choice with many cars with much lower mileage.

EDIT: Just been looking at this one seems too good to be true, it isn't a manual but its a £1000 cheaper and half the mileage of the one ive been looking at?!

There'll be loads of white ones on the market in a couple of years, Peugeot seem to be practically giving them away to police forces. That must be the only reason they're becoming so common because the cops seem to hate them.
