what do you recommend?

Been out of touch for a while in the pc components world. What you guys recommend for a Gaming pc (perhaps would use it for music production too, but lets stick to gaming as its use) i have around 1000£ excluding vat to spend. This would be just for the base unit, mouse and keyboard. Not the monitor or anything else.

i'd swap the mobo on Jak's spec to the p5q-e version.

think the pc6400 geil black dragon will be okay for the q9550, and i'd also include an after market cooler for it.
 
Is ATI all the rage now over nvidia. I have always been an nvidia man my self but i noticed a lot of people are using ati in these threads. Just to make my self clear again i can spend 1000£ without vat. Thanks for your replies so far :)

Change keyboard/mouse/case for whatever you want, and this is also presuming you'll be using a 24in monitor, if you're using something smaller change the graphics card to a regular 4870 or even a 4850. Also the sound card isn't essential so remove it if you want.

Edit. I forgot to add a different CPU cooler, you should probably add one if you're going to overclock the CPU (which you should!)

Yep above spec looks very good, and at the moment the ATI cards are clear performance / £ winners, which is why they are getting recommended.
