I'm looking for a good spec 7 or 8 inch tablet to replace my Nexus 7 2013 due to lack of space as I have the 16gb model. The Shield tablet K1 tablet suited this nicely but looking around not only has the price gone up to £170 but its hard to find any stock.

10inch tablets are too big for me to carry around in my bag and I already have a iPad which I like to keep at home. The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) seems lower spec than the Nexus 7 and I don't think Samsung keep these update often like Google did with the Nexus.

Any recommendations?

What about just keeping your eye out for a second hand 32gb Nexus?

That's what I've just bought. Its running an unofficial Nougat ROM based on Android AOSP and I'm really pleased.

Cost to change could be as little as £15 maybe?

I was looking into that but for an tablet which is a few years old it would be good to get an newer tablet which will still get updates. Want to avoid the rooting path just to keep updates.

I still use it but I thought there were rumours of a new 7" and 9" Google tablet. You could look for a used Nexus 9 or Xperia tablets.

Nexus 9 and Xperia tablets are too big me to carry plus they are also old now. Better option I would have gone for would have been the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 when it was £169 last week.

I don't rate the Tab A. Got a ton of them here in the school and they've got a terrible screen on them.

It seems as if the bottom has dropped out of the Android tablet market. I was talking to a friend at the weekend who was looking for a replacement for his Nvidia Shield that had broken and the only thing we could come up with was another Nvidia Shield. It's crazy seeing as the things are 2 years old now.

Its looking like that even Apple have slowed down in the tablet market :( I think Nvidia have pulled out due to the Nintendo Switch.

What about the Nokia N1? It seemed good on paper when it got released in the East but that was a little while ago now.

Im In the same boat.love my Nexus 2013 but want to replace it . nothing OTT expensive. I did see rumours of a Nexus 7 2016 model but nothing more than rumour at this stage I believe

I was looking for sonething to replace my dads Kindle fire HDX7. He's not great when it comes to tech and the kindle has served him well, but is now a bit outdated. The 2 main issues is that there is no rear camera. He likes to take pictures of him and his grandson, but it's a bit of a faf with just a front facing camera. The other, is that it would be ideal for him to have 4g on the go, which his can't do with out a 3rd party device.

I was looking at the newer Kindle fires and to my disbelief, his 3 year old kindle is better than Amazon's latest offerings?!

I was looking at the Samsung tab A with data. It's more of a side grade than anything it seems, but it does have a rear facing camera and data on the go. It would be nice to get him onto full android as well. Anything else would be overkill spec wise, when all he does is keep uptodate with sports news and the odd bit of shopping.

Low/mid range tablets really have slowed down it seems, in more ways than one.
