In the following link, what do you see?

a lot Of Hassel?

Or like me...a lot of potential?

Linkage

Its pretty much bang on what i'm after, stripped down, so i can rebuild it to my own spec as i want (gonna keep it all original anyway) And best of, its cheap aswell. What do you guys think

Only serious posts please :)

Looks like the kind of project that will cost several tens of thousands in the end.

if you have deep pockets, go for it, i'm sure it'll be awesome if you can put in the effort and work and finish it.

If its your thing, go for it. Even in that state, I have to say, I can still see the beauty of the lines of that car. Classic Fastbacks are awesome looking motors, best of luck if you go for it :)

Cheap to buy, but transporting it and importing it in to the UK isn't going to be...

What do you reckon? I can pick it up from the docks here in the UK no problem

A collection of bits of a car suited to a proper enthusiast living in the states.

Not an 18 year old in the UK with no mechanical knowledge whatsoever.

I'll definately be putting the time and effort into it, its something i've always wanted to do, and helping my dad restore the cougar from him stripping it down to rebuillding it, i understand the time and effort involved :) and the money, if you look it hasnt even got an engine, its pretty much just a shell with wheels!

Picking it up isn't the problem, its the amount of cash it will cost you when it lands in the UK thats the point...i'd love it, but it would need to be here already and with its registration docs...
:)

ahh so when it gets to the UK it needs to be registered and thats when the old flexible friend would come in handy?

Don't forget it's also missing wings, bonnet, front panel, all trim, all lights, all interior, all glass, complete drivetrain, no loom that I can see, rudimentary wheels....

yep, its literally a shell on wheels. Which to be honest is what i'm after, as if i got one with all of the above i would be stripping it down to the shell anyway, to take care of the rust alone. And then see about getting possibly new or refurb parts for it if they werent worth fixing.

Don't you think that owing £14,000 for an Astra and £2000 for an Apple laptop is enough debt for now? Are you aiming for 20k by your 19th Birthday or something?

Were you not asking a month ago about quitting your job and going to college? The more stuff you finance the harder this will become!

Dude, seriously, slooow down! You've got your entire life to do stuff like this, wait until you can actually afford it..

That's all well and good, but you will still have to source all these parts. Do you realise how hard getting trim is for even a relatively recent and worthless car?

Don't owe on the laptop (was a desktop anyway) hence the sig. And i have lots of ideas buzzing around in my head and that thing about quitting work and going to uni was because my work sucked but got a new job and it rocks. Plus the only money going to be going into this car for now is manual work hours by me, i wont be buying stuff for it until next year! i mean look at the state of it...that rust won't get rid of itself

Not for a recent car no, but i've been contacting the suppliers my dad used for the cougar and they can supply me with all of the parts - and i've got contact details for a place which make seats to fit old american cars (brand new seats old style trim) and carpet also got a place who does that as well, its all in american car mags. I no i make it sound easy, and it will be by far an easy task.
Don't worry, i know what i'm getting myself into :)

I'd start with a complete car to strip and restore. I honestly don't think you realise how tricky it is to source minor components. It's missing everything. Everything.

Every nut and bolt
Every washer
Every hinge
Most panels
Every piece of glass
Every piece of trim
Every drivetrain component
Every scrap of wire
Every switch
Every piece of interior trim
Every lighting component

I think it is a complete waste of money unless you have a rotten 67/68 fastback that needs re-shelling or you've crashed a good 67/68 car.

If i was you then i would buy a full car.
Stripping it is half the fun :D
Pluss after you have stripped it down and know what you need to keep you can sell all the parts that you wont be using and that will save you money in the long run :)

And let me just say one more thing, You Owe 14,000 Pounds on an Astra

The auction just ended :(

Bah....

Didnt you spot that? See this is what we mean, you really don't seem to think things through - calm down, chill out and take stuff slowly.

But not as slowly as my car purchase. Thats too slow :p
