What do you tend to charge?

Just looking for a little advice on what people tend to charge for their photos when they are selling them, but are not being used for a commercial purpose?

Basically, I've shot a lot of photos during the Olympics and have had a number of requests from people to buy photos from me (thought some are also just hoping I give them away). The majority are just normal people that I took photos of who have found themselves in them online, however I actually had one Cyclist's girlfriend contact me asking to buy some.

What do you tend to charge per photo provided in digital form, that wasn't commissioned and quite candid?

Also, I'd like to be quite clear about the licence I am granting them, so that they understand that I am only allowing them for personal usage and in no way can they be sold on or published. When doing this, do you really need a signature? As obviously I will either be providing them online, or probably better, sending the images on a DVD in the mail, so I could send a physical printed hardcopy.

Does anyone have a good template they use for licence agreements?

Cheers.

Digital = Expensive.

Hard copies = work out a price structure. Have a look on various tog size to view what kind of bench mark people are setting. Use a familiar printing server that you've used and happy with and then put your mark on it.

You might want to check that if the photos were taken at olympic venues that the T+C's of your ticket allow you to use the photos commercially, as a lot of venues do not allow this. For these types of shots if I was allowed to sell them I'd probably just go with beer tokens if I was there for my own enjoyment with no intention of selling.

To clarify these are photos taken from non-ticketed events, such as the cycling road races, as far as I'm aware the rules are no different to taking photos in public as per usual.

I wouldn't even attempt to sell any I took at the actual Olympic Venues, as I'm well aware that it's not allowed.

But, yes you are right, I was there to enjoy it and also take some good photos, for fun and so that a few might end up in my portfolio.

I'm not looking to charge somebody silly money, or possibly trigger them to instead just try and steal them online. I took the photos and spent time processing them, so I'm not going to just give them away as its still my work, so I guess it's finding an in between.
