Hi all
I'm in bit of a predicament.
My dad was big into carp fishing, since he passed away nearly 3 years ago all his fishing gear has been in my mums garage and has only been used by me on 2 occasions. I'm talking the full works here £1000+, carp rods, reels, bags, chair, bivvi, etc etc everything a carp fisherman would ever need.
Mum is in the process of selling the house and said to me the other week that I need to take the gear to my house when she moves as her new property will be a lot smaller than the cottage she lives in now and there will be no room for dads gear.
Thing is, Before dad died he put away a rod for me and a rod for my boy and was going to sell the rest, but I talked him out of it as it was going to be a hard thing for him to do, and to keep his spirits high told him he still might use it as he may not die. Obviously that wasn't the case.
Now i'm in 2 minds what to do, I know dad knew I wasn't going to use it like he did, and he would want the gear to be passed on to someone who was as keen as he was. On the other hand it was my dads and he loved fishing.
Am I doing the right or wrong thing, thinking about selling it ?

Same story here man. When my dad passed on I kept all the fishing gear. I thought about selling it as it was at least £1000 worth of top of the range coarse fishing stuff.

At the end of the day i kept it all, I used to fish loads, hardly now days which is a shame, but i hope to get back into it. Maybe with my son one day, who knows.

IF you dont need the money and have space to keep it, I would.

But if you can sell it or pass it on to someone that will seriously appreciate it, or it gets you out of some debt then go for it...

As long as you have the memories the stuff is just stuff.

IMO i say to keep it. you have find time later on to enjoy fishing again, even if the time isnt right now

You already have the gear that he gave you and your son earlier so I would suggest selling it to another keen carp guy or finding a youth/boy's club that you could donate it to.

IMO it will not get used but just moved from storeroom to storeroom and probably get dammaged in the process. Your dad would have wanted 'someone' to get the enjoyment out of it, I'm sure.

Kind regards.

I'd say keep enough to allow you and your son to go fishing if you have more time in the future and sell the rest, use it for a small holiday with your mum perhaps.

Keep it somewhere safe. If you go out on only one occassion and enjoy that time then you have yet another reason to remember your Dad with a smile. :)
