What do you think of this overclock...

I've decided to OC on stock intel cooling. This seems to be stable under orthos but I think I only let it run for just more than an half an hour without any problems. I've got an Arctic Freezer 7 which I will upgrade the stock cooling to ... and on the stock cooling the temps got around 80C after more than half an hour. The Idle temps are around 40C.

Is the voltage to high ? and what are the effects of high voltage/heat on the processor, by how much do they shorten it's lifespan ?

On the stock cooler i would say 1.45v is a tad high, ideally you want to be using a top end air cooler or water for 1.45v.

Most say that for 24/7 use no more then 1.4v (underload), heat wise id say ur getting towards the limit, without checking its max core temps, there is abit of head room, but best not to try any further.

Just had a relook at the screenshot and spoted its 65nm, and not 45nm, so therefore, the voltage u are using is OK, but ofcourse the lower the better, as less heat produced.

The ACFP7 will reduce the temps abit, and noise, but not massivly at those volts, if you plan on keeping that clock 24/7, i would highly suggest spending abit more and gettting a top air cooler, like the true or a mega. But as u have that cooler allready install it, and run orthros again and see the difference.

If you hav'nt turned off intel speed step, id say have ago with trying that and see if u can lower the vcore abit for that clock, as i noticed with my E8400, that i required far less vcore with it turned off, if u click onthe link in my sig, that is my 24/7 with speedstep turned off, but with it turned on i required over 1.2v. It may not work for you but worth a test.

About the lifespan, well hard to say really, supposedly if u don't touch ur cpu clocks there supposed to last for 40years, so obviously any form of extra volts and speed will reduce this time frame.

Unless u go really insane on the volts, for long periods i would'nt worry to much about it.

Iv pumped 1.55v into my E8400 on cheapo water, and im not worried, as it was for a quick bench run.

Aslong as u have cooling capable of sorting the heat out thats allways gonna be the issue.

But the best way to think of it is this, how often do u run things on ur computer that puts it to 100% load? Most i make my comp do is game and fold at the same time, but still comes no where near to ortros or prime temps.
