Just built my first desktop. I went for the gaming PC route and in total spent $745. Good part selection as it is now or I could have done better for the price?

Here's what I got:

CPU: Core i5-3450 over clocked from 3.1ghz to 3.9ghz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7850
RAM: 8gb's of DDR3 1333mhz from G. Skill
HDD: 500gb Seagate Barracuda Sata II 7,200rpm HDD
Motherboard: Biostar TZ77XE3
Power Supply: Antec VP450w
Case: Cooler Master HAF912
DVD Drive: Samsung DVD-RW Drive
OS: Windows 7

Thats a good build,

Did it all go together well?

Is it easy to OC the 3450? How are the temps looking?

I bet your very happy with it. :)

Nice build. I would have gone for a 3570k and a different mobo but I'm sure you had your reasons and won't be disappointed with your build.

I've yet to get the HD 7850. I'll have it next week when I get my next paycheck. Other than that, everything else seems to be working flawlessly. It was VERY easy to overclock the 3450. Maybe, because my mobo was built for overclocking purposes or this CPU was just part of that lucky draw of the overclockable 3450 batches. I can overclock it to to 3.7ghz across all cores at all times or the way I have it now where it turbo boosts up to 3.9ghz on only 1 core if that's all that's needed or if all 4 cores are needed around 3.8ghz across all 4 cores. I chose this method because to me it doesn't make sense to have the CPU clocked in at 3.7ghz all of the time wasting wattage and running warmer than it should. The temps on this thing look nice, even on the stock HSF. On idle, I get around 35C and the highest I've seen it go was 58C. My case cooling configuration is just two 120mm fans mounted at the top of the case for exhaust. I thought I'd need more, but the temps are wonderful. Maybe, when the HD 7850 comes around, I'll throw in another 120mm. ;)

Looks OK, but why not go for the 3570K?
The 3450 I have now can max out at 3.9ghz on 1 core or 3.8ghz across all 4 cores which more than adequate for me and modern day gaming at 1080p with detail settings cranked to the fullest. Also, I got the 3450 at Micro-Center for only $162 with tax. I couldn't find a 3570K there.
