I currently got a 27 Asus 165hz as my main screen.

Looking to get a second for YT/Twitch/Discord whatever.

I'm caught trying to decide whether I want symmetry and have 2 27's or save some cash and get a cheaper 23/24''

I use a 24" old Dell IPS in portrait mode.

I find that works well for internet browsing, discord, word processing etc. I think its important to have an IPS if in portrait mode due to the superior viewing angle.

Wouldn't work so well for YT though as you'd want it in landscape for that.

I suppose it really depends what you'll use it for most.

I use a Dell U2515 (25" IPS) for my secondary and have it directly above my main as my desk setup doesn't allow for side by side. If it's "just" for monitoring or non important things then just grab a cheapy.

A 27" Samsung TV jobbie, so I can just watch TV alongside if I want. Secondary screen does not have to be particularly epic for my uses.

a really old 32" samsung tv. it was going to the dump before i rescued it and repurposed it as a second screen. keep meaning to pick up as smaller cheap screen and mounting it and my main screen on a monitor arm but it does the job so i keep putting it off.

I have three monitors. I suppose my main monitor is my Dell Ultrasharp 4K in portrait mode. I do most of my work on this monitor. I have an Acer Nitro 4K on which I do most of my gaming and an Asus 3440x1440 on which I play other games but normally has browser windows active for various references.

Do you experience any neck strain when switching between the two monitors over a couple hours?

I wouldn't say so. I dont pussy it a lot of attention, if it was used more day to day for real computing then it wouldn't be a good solution.
I'm looking for a second monitor but I'm restrained to the length of my desk so I either looking at having another monitor for portrait configuration or a monitor above the current one.

Dell U2515H in portrait orientation, great for forum browsing.

SO IPS is good for portrait mode. Is LCD fine too? Are there any panel types that are a "no go"? I am using a TN in landscape at the moment.

Currently have a Predator 32" as main, and a cheapo 24" Acer as secondary, usually for looking up things while gaming Elite Dangerous...

It's my portrait-mode monitor that gets the most use.

I once had a dual monitor setup but found it a bit useless so just went back to one. I have a decent 32inch LG 1440p monitor as my main at the moment but I also have a spare 27inch ips I could use in portrait alongside it. I might try it again see how it goes.

2x 32" 1440p monitors! :D

Also got 2 x 32" 1440p but I have one on top of the other - takes up less space and means I'm sat directly in front of the main screen.

Second screen is just for when the first is full and I need to look at multiple things at once, usually boring work stuff.

I have a 32" 4k BenQ EW3270U as my main screen, next to it is a 1920x1200 Dell I got from an old workplace that were getting rid of them, in in exchange for a 10 quid donation to charity a couple of years back.

It's great for web/email etc while the main screen is for coding and gaming.

My old PCBank Korean 27" QHD for years ago which were a steal back in the day and it still works perfectly to this day. In fact the picture on it is actually great, better than my other monitor but its a 32" so I just use it as the main for the size/real estate.
