what do you use to 'test' a new build?

Hi, just wondered what you guys do when you build a new computer system (windows) to check everything is working ok, stability etc.

Just curious if you do use anything.

Only thing I really do is run prime95 (I'm sure there are better stress test now) and watch a temp monitor to check my CPU doesn't get super hot. I'll only run other things if there is a problem.

Device Manager.

If there's any yellow flags, then I try to fix them. If not, then alls well!

But seriously, I do do the above. If there is a BSOD, then I reduce overclocks (if there are any) and work my way up again.

Memtest
Prime95
HW monitor
Heaven 2.0

The usual ones, but generally aslong as there's no explosion when I press the ON button, or any smoke - then I'm happy.

I don't ever test a new build, if there is a hardware problem I usually know about it pretty quick. Like gillywibble, only when overclocking.

Just device manager for exceptions and a check on system temperatures. I reserve all the stress testing for overclocking.

For me as long as everything is showing as installed in device manager then I am happy, I also check CPU temps just to make sure the heatsink and fan is seated fine but other than that nothing else unless overclocking.

Stoner81.

Nothing if there is no blue screen, no exclamation marks in DM, and the temps are low then it works IMO lol

BurnInTest or Prime95, occasionally. If everything works, why bother? There should only be a need to stress test when overclocking.

Even when not overclocking I like to stress test just to make sure the heatsink and fan are more than enough to keep temps fine. More important if ocing of course.

i will just do a 10 min run on Intel burn test, just to make sure temps are fine.
and check device manager/event viewer

Usually just whatever game I'm playing at the time - if it works, I'm happy!

Seriously though I'll use some kind of burn software, maybe Prime95 to test temps, etc. That's about it though.
