Hi folks

After getting some advice from you guys i finally ordered myself a netbook! However i was struggling to justify it to myself as i know i'll be using it for poker, movies, music and netsurfing. I already have a laptop, main computer and an ipod so its really a bit of a luxury purchase.

Did anyone else buy one for the reasons above or did you buy one for work on the move? What do you use yours for?

Well, I just sold my trusty laptop.....got a work one now, so spent some of the pennies on a Eee 901 20GB today :) Plan to use it for surfing, little bit of office work on the go, camera 'on-the-go' storage and so on......doesn't need to be full laptop, just basics.....and I felt the Eee was right for me (yes, I know that rhymes )

Watching video (off an external, usb powered, 320gb WD Passport drive), surfing the 'net, reading ebooks (tip: if reading a .pdf in acrobat reader on them then tell it to rotate the screen 90 degrees and go full screen .... a lot more book like) .... and basically anything where I need to do something with a computer where there isn't one.

My main laptop is 17" so my Eee 901 is a lot more portable so get's used way more.

My Acer One is my main used computer at the moment mainly web surfing/msn/office and movies n such. Bought it for Uni and it works a treat :)

Oh for anyone using PDFs on these things, checkout Foxit reader. Much lighter version of adobes pdf reader so perfect for netbooks, loads really quickly :)

I use mine for...

Watching movies when I'm on the train
Surfing whenever and wherever possible
Storing photos (perfect for when visiting people)
Has all my MP3s on board

It's perfect for when I go on holiday (music system, video library and photo store all-in-one) and I use it at home when I'm watching TV but want to order/check something on t'internet.

Sure - you can do all this on a standard laptop but for £220 and less than 1kg..

I have a good main computer at home, and got fed up of using the uni computers in the library as they are always too busy. And as there is wireless all over the campus decided to buy the 1Gb 120GB aspire one. I absolutely love it. Means I can wander into uni with it, and just sit down wherever and start doing some work. Also using it a lot at home, just for surfing etc. I just love the portability of it.

That's what i am planning on doing whatleytom. Got my main desktop in my room for a bit of gaming when i am bored and work. Then will have my NC10 for working in the library and wherever i want really :D

Well ive just got my advent and i cant believe how powerful it is! I have a decent main computer but my laptop is about 4 years old and the netbook beats it hands down. You gotta love technology! Ive already got my slingbox connecting to it which is really very cool!

I should receive my MSI Wind tomorrow morning and I plan to use it for surfing in front of the tele, bit of chat, etc. I also plan to use it as a go-between my home desktop (which I will do all my heavy work on) and my Uni, so I can do small note taking on it, show some work in progress, surf while waiting for next lecture, etc.

Watch movies and play poker too!!!! You know it makes sense!!

Using Zattoo my Acer becomes a handy portable TV.

Thanks for that. Now using Zattoo too very nice program :D Loving My aspire one currently sat in Costa Coffee posting this. Using mine for internet when out and about (I do a lot of driving/travelling for work), Work (viewing pdf's and office apps) and even a few games. Just got to pick up a six cell battery and it will be perfect.

I just wish id had something like this when i was at uni!

Cheers,
Hugest

I use mine mainly for internet and email when I'm away from home. I;ve also started using ot for openoffice as I'm teaching myself oOo basic.

Why not get a car charger? they're a lot cheaper at ~£15

Thanks for the suggestion will be getting one of these too but there are times I wont have access to power or the car so the longer battery is a must too :D

I use (and so does the Mrs) mine for net browsing, general spreadsheet work and office documents (plus the occasional online game).

I bought it as my gaming laptop (X80R) is a 17" behemoth that weighs roughly 5kg and has pathetic battery life, it is not something I can just chuck in my bag and lug around with me.
