What do you use your virtual machine for??

I haven't used VMware for a while (use VirtualBox these days), but do you have the option to enable IO APIC and VT-x (hardware virtualisation) in the virtual machine's properties? It's necessary for 64-bit guests in VirtualBox, so maybe in VMware also... ?

Well ive been through my bios and virtualization technology was already enabled and cant find a IO APIC option, So I give up, even tried installing a older version of vmware. So it looks like I will have to stick to 32bit OS,, dammit:mad:

But running 2 OS on 1 computer I cant get over that, its crazy, I have 2 screens so I can run my main OS on the 1 screen and the virtual OS on the other screen in fullscreen. Crazy I tell you.lol

im gonna say yes, as it depends on how you have set up the virtual machine. If your vitual machine is sending and recieving data over the internet, your virtual machine can get infected just as your main os would. i guess its all depent on what the use of the vmachine is.

better safe then sorry i guess.

Some interesting vm's here.

I'm just running one on my home rig at the moment with windows 7 on, but am probably going to setup some more to try ubuntu and some other things out on.

Yer I always do, but is there anyway for the host pc to get infected if the vm gets a virus, assuming you have shared folders turned off?

i guess the only way i would see it is as if your vm was another machine on your desk. if the machine next to you got a virus and was infected with 1000 popups/min, would yours be if you were both using the same router/switch for instance?
i think you'd be safe. not too sure, i run a large network and use vmware to virtualise our servers. we have a file server which is on the main os but vmware runs print server and other small test machines on there too.

I got a load of test network servers.
And a copy of Win 7, but it didnt run to well
And a copy of XP for porn.

Anyone having problems running Windows 7 inside a vm? I've tried virtualbox and microsoft virtual pc and both run terrible.
The recommended partition size is 16gb for win 7?, I was using a 10gb partition would that have affected it?
2ghz t7250 C2D, 3gb memory is what I have, I have run vista and xp pro in the past with no problems but win 7 in a vm the cpu is at 100% all the time, and it takes a few mins at least to bring up something like the control panel. :(
