What do you want to be doing in 5 years time?

Hey, I know people say you should enjoy where you're at, and what your doing now... and not to wish the time away.

But where do you want to be in 5 years, or what do you want to be doing in 5 years?

Some of you might be in that place already, others might be working towards it...

But what are your aspirations for 5 years time?

Personally, I'd like to be in New Zealand (moving out there next December) in my own flat or apartment, not too far from Auckland - using my degree in a forensic science or analytical science field, spending my spare money and time flying/touring down to the South Island to go Snowboarding and mountain biking.

I really don't know, 5 years ago I know where I wanted to be and to be honest I'm very close but not quite there.

In another 5 years time I'll be knocking on the doors of being 30 years old and I really don't know where it all goes from here.

I have high hopes and aspirations, however I think I've set my goals too high and I won't be able to accept not getting there.

I could also end up in the gutter.

I want to stick to what I'm doing at the minute but would also like to expand my skillset and either use my spare time to make more money or try to specialise in the aviation world.

Either way, my target it 6 figures before I'm 30.

Nice figure. I'd be happy at the moment on anything around 2k a month! Need to finish my degree though, so the crappy £500 a month will do.

However, in NZ - I'd like to be earning around $50k. That would get a nice lifestyle, even though you'd probably only just be getting by in the UK. ($50k = about £20k)

To keep expanding my car business towards my long term goal of 7 figures in that. Also to progress my IT career slightly to get onto some higher level work to keep me busy and up to date and playing with all the latest high end kit.

I am 18 now but by then I would like to have got into an airline after having finished my degree and flight training. Then live at home for a while to save for a mortgage and pay back my loan. Renting would seem like money being thrown away, so I guess I will have to live with my parents for a few years, maybe till I am 24/25 :(

Be a chartered engineer, have a nice house, be married and have traveled a fair bit more than I have now.

Surely working for an airline will pay enough to let you get your own rented place and save a bit?

*Chatting girl up in a bar*

You: Hey, I'm a pilot for BA...
Hot girl: You must be loaded? Nice house?
You: Well, I rent a room in a shared house... *gets a bit worried*
Hot girl: Who do ya share with?
You: My paren..... housemates.

You study biology though? Surely you knew from the first day that you were destined to teach 13 year olds about mitosis?! :p
Whilst undertaking my practical project (involving 250 hours of lab work transforming a plant to produce a glaucoma drug) I realised the next step (PHD) was unappealing for two reasons:

a) Its just too hardcore. There is just so much information totally irrelevent that you have to know to do anything. You arn't a small cog in a world changing machine, you are a mere piece of dust on the smallest of cogs. I just didn't think I could make a difference. It was always my dream until recently of being a professor, but spending time with the PHD students and running a million experiments which don't work "just because", I got very frustrated with the idea.

b) The pay is poor and career opportunities poorer. Very bad job security too, would have to hop all over the country every few years.

So law it is. Using my brain, and earning a nice wage.

Providing I get a 2:1 (very likely) I will start a 2 year MA in law in October :)
