ive been told that the 2500k idles at 1.6Ghz regardless if its overlocked or not...

is this right? as it will have an effect on an overclocking decision we are making.

thanks

unless you turn speedstep off i think it drops the multi to X16, so if you change the FSB then it will be that x16 (default FSB is 100)

:) thanks - my dad will be pleased to know

so we can overclock to 4,4Ghz then when he just browsing the web it will b 1.6Ghz and 4.4Ghz when using FSX?

yeh, and as the speed up is sooooo quick you wont get any lag. its always best to leave speedstep on unless you find it causes instability (which i think is rare on the newer intel chips, think it was the 775 that were troublesome).

just insall cpu-z once your build is done, it'll show you whether it's adjusting the clock as required, or running at full speed all the time.
