What does a beard trimmer do that hair clippers won't?

I've recently joined the beard collective and it's grown to the point it's time to trim. Do I need to buy beard trimmers or will the hair clippers I've already got do?

more accurate obviously as clippers come with different sized attachments which are pretty big jumps where as my trimmer goes up in 0.1mm increments.

if you're just to lazy to shave then obviously clippers without a guard will do the job, if your after a specific length then you need beard trimmers

On the other hand, the highest setting on my trimmer is shorter than I would like, hair clippers would probably be best if you want a large beard.

Scissors will also do the job.

It's a lot more difficult to get a consistent length and total coverage with scissors. Especially when you are doing it yourself.

How long do beard trimmers typically go? I want mine quite long, I trimmed it today to 18mm with my hair clippers and it seemed to go okay but I think I might try and style it a bit more in future.

my beard trimmers are high end cost like £90
they go from 0.4mm to 5mm in 0.2mm increments I think, digital like I just press the up or down arrow and the digital display commands the will of the blades
They are sold as "supper stubble" though and not for long beards

water proof as indicated by the splashing water so can use them in the shower and a lithium ion battery that lasts 60minutes as indicated by the led display so great for travelling I guess since it only takes 5 mins each time

I usually go for a 1.8mm-2.4mm which looks like I didn't shave for a few days as clean shaven I just look horrible with huge cheeks

My beard trimmer glides through my facial hair with ease whereas the clippers can sometimes catch on it and pull.
