Hey all,

So I'm trying to get into NHL and I've heard "GM" being thrown around - Any idea what it stands for?

Thanks,

Marky

The GM deals with the contracts, buying and trading of players. The coach has to decide how best to utilise the players available.

American sports typically work like:

Owners -> GM -> Coach -> Players

Owners control the finances.
GM decides what players to get for the team.
Coach picks players and tactics.
Players are overpaid nonces.*

*Not strictly true for hockey players but appropriate in most sports.
