I've been sent a document which references numbers with nr., for example "20nr. months".

I can't Google it because it's so short, so what does it mean?

We use nr. In QS’ing, it’s bad practice to use no. As it’s confused with No.

Chimney 1 nr
Chimney 1 no I’m not doing it

etc

Pretty sure No. or Nr. just means 'Number' (confirmation of quantity)

In the same industry and never ever heard of people regarding the use of No. as bad practice. Its only confusing with the word 'no' if you don't put a full stop after it (No.) or the person you're dealing with is stupid. Maybe its like some sort of internal company policy wherever you work?

It's to do with surveying so that makes the most sense, however I think "20 months" is pretty self explanatory without pointing out that the 20 is a number? What else could it be?

It's Latin for Nebula Reticulum, which translates, literally, as "nebulous retina"

It's a relic of documents being stored in microfilm. The "nr" designation is picked up by the scanning process an used as calibration. Hence "nebulous retina"

Common with architecture blueprints and suchlike

Typical legal waffle, you're lucky it doesn't say, 20 (twenty) nr. calendar months

possibly just to make it clear its not as letter O or anything.

It's a short form notation for the Latin for "queen wasp", I know this because my uncle was emperor Constantine.
