What does OCUK do to combat scalpers?

I'm really intrigued as i missed out on 3080's etc due to scalping and the chip shortage.

It'd be great if you had to provide some sort of ID and limit sales to 1 per person.

I'll be so disappointed if i lose out on an XTX if i'm here on time for release and find out some scumbags buy 10 or so to sell on for +30% on.

Many thanks,

Tom

If you searched forums you would see that OcUK did a lot!

1 per customer
U.K. customers only
Actively cancelling orders which were found listed on eBay
Adding Cloudflare and other BOT restrictions.

We do what I can but it’s impossible to stop it all and hence why you can find FE cards so easily on EBay and PlayStation 5’s etc it’s not possible to totally stop it but we do what we can.

Its a lot easier for a store to send 10 GPUs to one person. Imagine the hassle of packaging up 10 individual boxes, 10 lots of packing materials, 10 packing slips, 10 receipts, 10 bags of haribo, and shipping to 10 different people. You cant blame a store for sending the whole lot to just one person.

Respect to OCUK for genuinely caring about gamers and limiting sales to one per person.

and chew bubble gum. Until they are all out.

The burger sorts the scalpers and naughty ebayers out.

If i remember right i was trying to buy one the 9900k cpu's you guys had at the time and a Quest 2 VR headset but couldn't as the CPU was "UK only".

Aye - Unlike Nvidia think they understand that whilst they could make large, short-term profits by selling to scalpers/Cryptofarms, long term it causes damage as gamers withdraw from the market entirely or convert to console gaming. It's really admirable that OC have the mantra that they do.

Nvidia doing what they are doing is not sustainable long term - Eventually another company will catchup with them & eat the vast swabs of market they've decided to abandon.

"Retailers like Newegg, (yes I know it's U.S) remove the refund option for NVIDIA's RTX 4080, leaving scalpers scampering in the direction of third-party marketplaces"

This is what really needs to happen in this country if businesses really care about their customers.

Bots and AI are getting better and better, so it's a fight shops can't win without turning purchase process into a customer-repelling nightmare, I believe. Still, thumbs up for trying!

The only real solution seems to be for manufacturers to produce enough for everyone. But they are usually unwilling, which even Nvidia admitted with 4090 shortages, saying they didn't provide enough in the retail channel, even though they were able to.

Scalpers will always be present and I don't think we can expect people to just stop buying from them (which would be ideal).

So you think we should abolish CCR?

So, your solution to problems with buying luxury products is to get rid of consumer protection laws? You didn't put much thought into that, did you?
