What does Smug Mug offer over Flickr?

Hi guys. Since Flickr changed the free accounts I really should pay for a service to host my photos. I doubt I'm the biggest user of 'community' features (who has the time?) but I'd like somewhere to put them that I can link albums that display nicely for friends and family etc. Facebook and Instagram are not cutting it. I tried Google Photos last week for an album and it was pretty hard going. The only additional would be somewhere that people could purchase prints etc? Unsure how that works on SM or Flickr. I have a very old RedBubble account that I sold a few items from but if I could ditch that and merge into Flickr/SM then that would be good.

My Dad recommends Smug Mug but honestly I can't stand the name ( ) and it's a bit more expensive than Flickr, especially what with the most recent email discount they're doing. It seems a bit more 'involved' too, does anyone have any examples of a site built with SM? Not sure I have the time..

Any recommendations? I'm also wary of going back to Flickr as it sounds like they're still losing money! I don't want to pay £40/yr for it to be abandoned... :o

tldr; I think I need something that does...
- Unlimited hosting of full-res photos for backup
- Public and private albums
- Ability to sell items?

I have a domain hosted on Google/G Apps whatever it's called. I haven't looked at it for ages as I use it for my email domain and the URL itself has always just pointed towards a site like Flickr/Red Bubble previously. I'm guessing I could host a Smug Mug site "properly" like yours then?

How much work was that to setup? Is it essentially a SM template? :)

I have a domain name from godaddy, they have some deal with SM, but I guess any would do.

SM is drag+drop or tweaking things from the UI menus. Yes it's one of their templates which I've fettled with a little. If you know html/css you could tweak way more than I have.

The time consuming part is uploading images then captioning/keywording them.
