a laptop I am working on, is fine for about 5 seconds then ends up looking like this

dsc00025rm3.jpg

I wanted to try it on another screen but it doesnt have the facility to be hooked up to an external monitor

so I cant work out if it is the graphis or the monitor,

did try and reinstall the graphics driver but couldnt see much so stopped it

the green box is ment to be the box to adjust display settings and screen saver

Pretty certain thats the GFX card knackered. Ive seen similar patterns on dozens of cards when their memory has become damaged. I woudlnt expect the entire LCD screen to break like that, it would be more likely to break only over a certain section of the screen Im guessing.

The best way is obviously to plug it into a different monitor....sure theres no VGA output or anything? Thought nearly all laptops had that.

i have had a pc gfx card that went like that and last week saw a toshiba tablet that also had same sort of screen issues but that one had a problem with motherboard to screen contact but yours sounds more like a gpu prob

btw i got the laptop working by shaking it for about 5 mins but only try that at your own risk lol

right managed to hook up an external monitor to the laptop , dont ask long story

and the same thing happened on the monitor,

so I take it its the gfx card, as if it had been the monitor screen the external monitor would have been fine ?

cheers for all your help by the way

Definately the internal graphics or GPU. Not the screen at all. You can tell by the look of the pixels there, get it looked at preferibly not the plonkers in purple tees.

Potentially a heat issue, there might be a dead fan in there.

Try identifying the chipset and see if you can underclock the gfx, there are utilities, and the timing does siggest this.

Best case scenario. It might be bad ram.. if the graphics shares ram, try adjusting the amount in the BIOS to see if that makes any difference. Then replace that ram... unlikely but possible.
