Well i was just waiting to join a server on the internet for a game and i noticed the light had gone from green to orange on my router.
I logged in and got this from the logs.

Sat, 2008-04-12 18:17:29 - Loss of synchronization :1

Anyone one know what it means or why i got it ??

Thanks

It means your router lost it's ADSL sync to the exchange. Probably caused by interference on the line or it could be a faulty filter. If it happens often check all your phones and Sky box (if you have one) have a filter attached.

Used to get it a lot on orange
Happened a couple of times since having sky installed

So you recon i should put a few more filters in the lines??

you can only fit one filter at a time. just make sure there are on all phone sockets in the house (even ones that aren't used).

maybe try swapping the filter that your router is plugged into.

Is you ISP Sky?

An orange internet light on their phase two routers means the router still has a connection to the exchange but it's dropping the IP address from the radius server.

Dont go adding micro filters left right and centre - you only need one micro filter per telephone socket thats in use and the filter should be the first thing connected to the socket with any splitters connected into the back of the filter.

Well the way its done in our house is

Main phone socket = = = Micro filter == = then off to router one end and the other goes to a phone and 2 sky boxes

This the way to do it?

Yeh i am i have had the prange light a few times
Could you explain what you last said there lol..

What Sonea Fifer means is that the router's still connected to the exchange, but isn't then connected to the ISP - your router says it's losing sync though, so this isn't the case. It's being disconnected from the DSLAM as well.

With Sky broadband your broadband signal travels down your telephone line to your exchange (this part of the connection is fine as you have the amber light) From there the signal travels to Skys Radius server (which authenticates with the MAC address on your router) and assigns you a dynamic IP address.

The dynamic IP address assigned is basically just a set of numbers but there important as without them you wont be able to browse / game. It could be dropping possibly down to a micro filter issue (as has been said) or possibly with the router itself.

Edit:

Thanks Tolien, my typing skills just aren't up to speed any more :p
