I've just my first payslip for a new job.

Its a complicated one just to an uncoperative previous employer which will more than likely explain why.

But what does W1810L mean?

W1 means that it's non-cumulative (so each pay amount is treated in isolation) and you could end up overpaying tax.

810L is a standard tax code (£8,100 tax free allowance)

Assuming I will be overpaying as I had a patch of about 2-3 months of unemployment this year, then I will be looking at a rebate in April?

This normally happens when no P45, or P46 is given when starting employment. If you have given or filled in one take this up with payroll to avoid the faff of reclaiming in April.

I haven't done either, thats the part that has been complicated by my previous employer
