So I always used to use CCleaner before it become a bloated mess :(

Have been using System Ninja for a while now but wondered if there was anything better?

Such as shame CCleaner went to the dogs. Always liked that for doing a quick clean.

Had been considering just using the built in tool myself.

Then I was thinking about trying a portable version of CCleaner to see if that was any better in terms of bloat :)

Still have ccleaner installed but use it far less than I used to.
I do an occasional disk cleanup and that's about it really.

I do move the multiple 'windows temp folders' into one 'temp folder' on install of windows though so I can just go in and press delete when I want... it's basically what ccleaner is doing at the end of the day lol

I am looking at giving bleachbit a go though, seems to be the 'new' ccleaner without the bloat.

Used to use bleachbit when ccleaner went downhill but don't really bother anymore.

Found them largely useless as the 'junk' it gets rid of is usually regerated after a day or two

CCLeaner Portable still exists and is updated. It retains the classic look and feel.

I have a pinned item on the taskbar from the Explorer icon, it loads a folder with shortcuts to all the maintenance apps and things I use once a month for good housekeeping. Not needed a fresh install since Vista on the same install, just in-place upgraded ever since.

Crikey - these still a thing? Don't think I've felt the need to 'clean' my system since Windows 10 came out - it seems to chug by fine imo.

If I were to scratch the itch, I'd personally do it manually - clear out %tmp% and %windir%\temp, maybe even %windir%\prefetch, then fire off a disk cleanup. Those always seeemed to do the trick historically, maybe even throw in a malwarebytes too.

CCleaner is useful even if your install is well maintained. Even in 2022 plenty of apps and games leave behind rogue reg entries for example after they are uninstalled or don't clean program data folders off the system after being removed.

Its all the junk that gets left behind in temp folders from software installers etc not to mention the odd trojan/malware likes to lurk there
