Hi, what are people generally using as a dvd decoder for Vista (nvidia) ? Purevideo is broke, as it's only decoding in software mode.

So what decoder is the best???

So are you looking for somethings to provide DXVA acceleration for Media Center or just general DVD playback?

Well, I want general mpeg2 acceleration for watching dvds on my vista laptop in media player 11. And yeah, I'm planning on upgrading my MCE2005 machine to vista too, so I'd need the best decoder for media center too.

I really want Purevideo HD to work, as both laptop and htpc are Nvidia.

Currently there is no decoder that accelerates Media Center, CyberLink PowerDVD 7 seems to offer hardware acceleration outside of MC.

Probably as you've found with Purevideo it currently defaults to YUY2 decoding and also constantly drops it SPDIF settings, I don't think we'll see a new Purevideo until Nvidia sorts out it's GFX drivers.

Cheers

So are nvidia not supplying a dvd/HD decoder anymore? They keep pimping Purevideo HD all over their site, so is this now just a function that other decoders will use? There's no actual product that Nvidia sell that is called Purevideo HD?

Well all the decoders mentioned will upscale but they won't do any hardware acceleration, your CPU is going to be doing all the work and the expensive GFX card you bought will be doing nowt!
