What DVD Decoder?

I cant seem to play DVDs on windows media player was wondering what DVD decoder is the best. I have an X-Fi card, 5.1 speakers and an 7800GTX if that helps. Any advice would be great not bothered about payin if need be.

Try installing Klite codecs pack. If that doesn't work, download the Cyberlink Power DVD demo.

another one to try is the VLC media player. I used to use powerDVD but it wasnt giving me a direct 5.1 sound output so I did a quick search and found the VLC player which has really worked wonderfully.

VLC is a true hidden gem imo - it isnt as well known as it should be!

Because it won't play DVDs unless you also have codecs installed?

I was having this problem not too long ago and i was told to download Dscaler. It works very well. Get it here:

Media Player Classic looks just like Windows Media Player 6.4, but has many additional features. It has a built in DVD player with real-time zoom, support for AVI subtitles, QuickTime and RealVideo support (requires QuickTime and/or Real Player); built-in MPEG2/SVCD/DVD codec.

One is called "Media Player Classic" the other is "Windows Media Player".
