I ask this because I have a few issues with Thunderbird that I can't really, simply fix. I want especially to be able to send mail via different accounts but Thunderbird doesn't make this easy at all.

So what clients are people using ans can they slove this problem for me?

Thunderbird 1.5 for me. What problems are you having? Do you mean you want to have multiple email accounts in Thunderbird? Can you explain in detail what you want and why you can't do that?

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I have 4 email accounts and Thunderbird collects them fine, but I would like to be able to reply using the same account as the mail came from. However, TBird really only seems to go with a single smtp server with no obvious option to change it quickly. Is there something I have missed?

I know what you mean now. I thought that was what you meant but wasn't sure. I found an extension for Thunderbird a few weeks ago which allows you to specify which email address to use when replying to an email. So if you have four accounts, you can tell each one to use their own email address or for all of them to use your primary email address.

Unless I am mistaken, this is what you need. https://addons.mozilla.org/extensio...derbird&category=Privacy and Security&id=1203.
When you install it you just open the menu and for each account specify the email address it must use by default when you reply to an email.

Seems a bit naff that they should leave this feature/functionality out by default though.

Hmm I kind of agree but I think the whole reasoning behind Firefox and Thunderbird is to give just the basic functionality that will suffice for most people and then if anybody wants extra themes or extensions they go and download them. Can you imagine how large a Firefox or Thunderbird loaded with the most popular added features would be?

The only thing that breaks this rule for me is the ruddy bug/feature where clicking on a folder opens a new window! Why?! The extension that fixes that should be supplied as part of the default Thunderbird.

Eudora, now at v7, owns all other clients. I also use Express Plus and Thunderbird on different boxes.

I use Outlook 2003 on my Windows desktops at home and work.

I had the same problem that the original poster had with Thunderbird and multiple e-mail accounts. I had setup an IMAP account for work, my NTL account and my GMail account but it seems that Thunderbird didn't like sending from multiple SMTP server selections (as I think you have to use GMail's SMTP for sending)? It's one of the main reasons that I use Outlook 2003 at home instead of Thunderbird.

I believe this is what I'm doing currently with TB. I've got several accounts (some business, some personal) - I've got the business ones going out through our official business SMTP servers, while the others go through our internet provider's smtp server.

Here's how (in TB1.5, though 1.0.7 is similar):
1) Open up Account Settings
2) Scroll down to Outgoing Server and add the additional SMTP servers you require
3) Now click on each account and use the combo to bind it to the appropriate outgoing server

Note: I'm using separate inboxes rather than the global inbox - dunno if this has a bearing on things?

I've just tried this out too. I like this method, saves me having to depend on an extension. Haven't put it into practice yet but I will later. Anyone know what I should put in for Hotmail and Yahoo SMTP servers?

I primaraly use Hotmail.
But the e-mail account i have for my ISP doesn't like working with thunderbird, keep getting authentication errors. grr
so i either use the web interface or MS outlook (the one from MS office package)

Microsoft Entourage 2004 for main email addresses, and then a gmail notifier widget for my gmail :)
