had enough of poor performance with teamspeak lately with all the crackling and breakups.
is there anything else out there that works as well?
tried xfire, that sounds like someone mixing a record, msn is just pure crap so im lost
:(

Hmm well there is many, try google talk, i find the quality of that better than vent. and if you don't like that, you can try Skype. There both good programs. Check 'em out.

Not had any trouble with teamspeak mate, maybe ya just on a poor server?
Our free sub has just ra out so were now on a ventrilo server.

Everyone sounds completely different lol

Both do the job just fine though

I've used both teamspeak and ventrilo, and to be honest there's not much to choose between them when properly configured.... vent is maybe slightly ahead, but it's a close call.

In my experience problems with poor audio quality are almost always down to a poor codec choice on the server, people with dodgy mics, or poor settings (picking up background noise etc). Some people also have their mic too close to fans and stuff like that which muffles their speech.

Bear in mind that the vast majority of people I talk to on teamspeak/vent are foreigners, which means that any flaw in audio quality is accentuated. A German with a quality mic can sound clearer than a Brit with a dodgy one.

Ive used both but use teamspeak for a few hours everyday for years. Once set up right its the best IMO but like i say ive had a lot more experience with it. Maybe try the free public jolt server to make sure it wasnt your server causing the trouble.

since when did you have to pay for ventrilo?

You can get a free version but its limited to a max of 6 slots. If you need more you'll have to pay a hosting company. The client is 100% free.

Ventrilo is so much better than TS. Words cannot describe how much I hate TS.

well i used TS for almost 6 months every night for 4-6 hrs. it was absolutely fine. did a reinstall of windows and everything, then it was crap. tried doing it all over again installed it all again and it was still poor. ive never been able to get the good performance back and i changed nothing the first time and didnt the 2nd and 3rd either so im clueless.
my mic works fine and soundcard is doing alright too so i dont think its my setup.

had no probs myself with TS, Vent always seems a bit clearer but i hate the program, can never get it setup properly, TS is much easier to use, and as i said, have never had any crackling issues unless someone forgets to set the channel codec to speex 25.9

Apparently, but with a internet bandwidth checker *keeping tabs on my second pc* I found it uses all of 3kb. During a convo with nearly 10 people.

If you get someone (decent upload)to host initial 5 people then you can glitch it and add as many people as you want *other people in the convo hosting say 2 people*

Skype group call?

Skype doesn't use a lot of bandwidth, but it is absolutely appalling if you happen to have more than two people in the conversation. Welcome 30Mb+ of memory use and 15%+ of CPU use. Ruins my FPS :(

I don't have much of a PC and I already have trouble keeping above 30fps in most games running normally, let alone with skype eating 15% of my CPU :/

However, skype quality is the best. If you have a good computer, go for that :)
