What else could it be ? Vibrating Steering

I had this problem a few weeks back, checked all the basics and ended up being my driveshaft, didn't figure it out until the driveshaft completely went

I'll throw another one into the mix from when I had a similar issue.

Hit a huge meteor crater (pothole) and had vibration more noticeable at higher speeds. Had a full alignment redone, wheels re balanced but it was still there. Didn't trust the balancing job so took it somewhere else, they started redoing it and then showed me why it was vibrating....turns out the wheel itself had a massive flat spot and wasn't actually round anymore ...

It could be play in any number of things. Need to get underneath it and grab hold of things and see if you can detect any unwanted movement.

You can claim the repair costs off the council for that damage :)

Make sure you phone up seperately and report the pothole first though, as they don't have to pay out for one "they don't know about".

I thought about it at the time but couldn't really get a proper picture of the pothole (it was on a hugely busy roundabout!) and it seems to have been repaired now. I guess it'd be impossible to prove.

Try it, a lot of the time they just pay out. There are actually chancers who walk around reporting and then claiming for potholes :p

Though I quite like the way some places get the local council to fix potholes. Draw a big penis around it:

Years ago I had a Mazda 626 with a vibration - had all wheels balanced numerous times till one day at Kwik Fit the guy called me in to look at wheel and tyre was oval - he spun it up and treat was going up and down by about 1/4 inch - Avon tyre at that - two new tyres and was a new car to drive.

Got it now on my Focus but I am sure it's a ding in alloy wheel.

I had this. Was caused by the kid at balance place being useless. No matter how many times he tried it would still do it.

Took it to a better place. Perfect now.

As above, had steering wheel wobble at 70 so took it to kwik fit as had a voucher for wheel balancing. Slight improvement but still noticeable but gave me a print out saying all OK.

Took it to another tyre place who did it again and got rid of the wheel wobble completely.
