Ok so as I've already announced I have a bike on the way, and its in really good nick and I want to keep it and me that way as much as I can.

The gear I have in full is:

Helmet
All season jacket (Spada - Dolomite Jacket)
Thermal Waterproof trousers
Winter Gloves (albeit a bit to big :P )
Boots
Balaclava
Oxford breath guard (the kind that velcros inside the helmet)
Oxford deluxe bike cover (unfortunately it will be stored outside :( )
Nice thick sleeved bike chain (no idea on make was half price from Argos..)
Kriega US20 and US10 (were Xmas presents from my missus)

What I'm planning on getting:

WD40 (been told to spray this all over the bike to keep it nice?)
Haynes manual
Disc brake lock (I work in Manchester Town Centre...)
On change of season - new gloves and trousers
Basic tool kit

I'm unsure on stuff like battery chargers, cleaning products or anything else that I should get. I don't have a budget as such but don't like to waste money or spend more than needed.

thanks :D

If the bikes being stored outside security is an issue - I would fit a ground anchor at home if at all possible, at least that way the bike can't be carried off to a van. Personally I'd not trust in a generic bike chain from Argos, very few chains can withstand a determined theif so I'd be looking for one that at least might put them off. Alarm / Immobiliser / Datatag / tracker are other things worth considering especially if you're leaving it relatively unsecured during the day.

Try ACF-50 instead of WD40 for protecting the bike against corrosion, more expensive but its sole purpose is anti-corrosion so it's a lot better for this purpose.

As PieEater suggested go for ACF-50 for keeping your bike corrosion free, but don't spray it or anything like WD40 on your brakes :p

Forgot to mention that when the bike is at home, it will be parked around the back of the house in the garden, beind a locked gate and the entrances to the back of the houses are by locked metal gates - residents only type thing.
I am considering an anchor though but not until I'm sure were going to rent this place for another year.. seems daft forking out for just a couple of months worth?

In the meantime there is a metal railing type thing attached to the wall of the house, going to chain it to that which puts it just outside the lounge window. Should be good. At work it will be chained to a metal railing with CCTV on it (we share a carpark with a Council building.

These alarms seem expensive, but I'm considering the Acumen Scooter/small bike Alarm £99, as from what I've read this is the one to get for small motorbikes <150cc, but it'll have to wait until weekend after pay day. Not Thatchem approved but seems to come highly recommended.

Thanks for the advice so far! :D

Yeah helmets Pinlock fitted, gloves are full winter weather proof gloves, very warm, don't need liners. Though thinking of buying summer gloves and getting liners to tie me through the "spring" -> summer transition.

As soon as i get paid I'm buying an acumen Scooter/Small bike DIY alarm and the starter immobilisation kit and a good disc lock. Will get an anchor if we stay here!!

At moment its chained to a thin metal plant holder type thing thats attached to the wall, but the chain goes through the front spokes and the steerings locked. Its right near the window and you would have to literally lift the front and reverse wheelie it for about 3metre's to even get it close to out the garden... should be ok for now :(
