What equipment for fishing?

Saw a spinner rod in lidl for £20 and fancied trying some fishing again, haven't been for years. This will be a cheap rod I know but just for a stocked lake.

What other equipment should I buy, I seem to remember we attacked bubble floats and half filled them with water then some line and hook on other end.

What size of hooks, what kind of bait to use etc..

Any other equipment to buy?

Not been for ages but from memory, a couple of floats, some weights (to ensure the float sits right in the water). Take it you have a reel and line already so some hooks. Depending on what size fish are stocked something along the 8-14 size should do. (Larger sizes for carp etc.). A landing net, seat, maybe a keepnet unless you are putting them straight back? Something to remove the hook (forceps etc.). A rod rest

Bait wise will depend on the lake, ring up and ask. Carp/bream used to use luncheon meat/sweetcorn. Others maybe maggots/worms etc.

Forget those crap supermarket sets.

You are better off going to a cashconverters and getting a cheap proper rod for just as little money. The line on these sets are not worth the time and will tangle, making you wish you didn't give it a go. Grab a medium-light test-curve rod, any reel you feel comfortable using and some good cheap and cheerful diawa sensor line (great quality for the price and tons of it).

Bait and tactics its best to go ask a local, since it varies from lake to lake.

What sort of fish do you want to catch?

If you are good with any fish, then simply get yourself a pack of different size shots, a few floats, a pack of size 14 barbless hooks and sweetcorn/maggot/caster for bait.

So tried sweetcorn and powerbait, nothing. Cheap rod and reel, is it worth buying better quality line as this line seems to tangle a pretty easily?

Do you really need weights on the tracer line(between the bubble float and hook as the corn and hook sink anyway)?

What other bait can I try, maybe just a worm?

What are you fishing for? generally maggots (red ) or worms will catch you something.
Definitely replace the line if it came pre spooled on the reel as it is usually nasty cheap stuff .

this guy has some good vids too
