What exactly is going on with the PS3?

First we are told it isn't going to be available here until 2007. Now, I've been told by quite a few people that they are in fact shipping a whole load of units over here in time for Christmas. Is this true? I presume the shops that have them on offer will be charging unfair prices for them. Are there any shops who have confirmed they will be taking pre-orders on a first come first serve basis?

Cheers,

if they ship any units here for xmas they'll most likely be imports and only available in private i'd guess

It will not be available here until next year. The ONLY machines available for Christmas will be imports, and expect to pay way over the odds for them.

I find Sony's stupidity amazing.

I don't even need to bother explaining why it is important to bring something out BEFORE Christmas.

They do know that, but production issues with the PS3 and having low numbers have made them decide on sending to the North America and Japanese markets, concentrating on getting good levels of stock to them, instead of sending not enough consoles to every region. They're still pretty bad for breaking their promises about global launch, but I understand why they have had to do this due to their own unforseen manufacturing issues.
