What external monitor to use with NC10?

Hi,

I am currently looking for some advice about what monitor to go for to use with my Samsung NC10. I use my netbook as my main computer source as I tend to travel a fair bit. When I do come home I tend to watch movies and browse the net for most of the evening each day.

Ideally, I would want a monitor around 22" preferably bigger if the NC10 could handle it.

Is anyone using their NC10 with an external monitor? Can it handle movies at the higher resolutions? I currently only have 1gb ram but would upgrade if it would make a difference.

My budget is around £150 - £200.

Any help for this rookie appreciated.

I occasionally use mine with my dell 2407, (19x12) it's fine for light use. Just remember that the bigger screen requires a bit more power from the machine than the built in display. General use such as internet, flash, office, etc is fine. With video you may run into a few problems with fullscreen if the bitrate/quality is too high or you have loads of other stuff running.

I would defiantly advise the 2gb upgrade, more noticeable when you use an external display.

Personally I would go for either the dell or the viewsonic, I've tested them out and really like them.

something i should point out, if you're running windows 7, the intel GMA 950 isn't able to smoothly render 1920x1200 with Aero enabled :)

Indeed, the atom platform is really just too underpowered to run 19x12 or 19x10 with the same smoothness you get from a standard laptop, let alone a quick one.

eeeh, the Atom's fine, it's GMA950 (which all netbooks are coupled to) which is just shockingly terrible
