What extras to buy for my first console? (PS3)

Hello,
I’m about to order my first console, PS3. I only want to play few exclusive games for PS3 I couldn’t on PC. I can buy games like God of War 3 or Uncharted series on Amazon quite cheap now.
Anyway, I started this tread because I’m not sure what extras I should buy. I’m going to keep the console in my room witch is simply too small to put some big TV screen so, if possible I want to share my PC monitor with the console.
My monitor is Asus VE278Q 27-inch LED Widescreen Full HD 1080p with HDMI Display Port 2ms Response Time Picture in Picture
I have there HDMI, DVI and VGA ports. My PC is connected to DVI and if I connect the PS3 to HDMI, will I be able to switch between my PC and console at any time while they both on? I’m sorry if this question sounds stupid or something but I want to be 100% sure about all my doubts before spending money.
Another thing I need to ask is sound. It would be great if you could advise me what good sound system I could get for £50 – 100.
Because I live with my family, there is often a must to use headphones. In my PC I use Xonar DX sound card and Shure 840 headphones. With this, can you advise me what to buy to have at least similar sound quality like on my PC? Some sound amplifier, sound box, some kind of external sound card or something like that will be same good as sound card in PC?
Regards,
Gonzo.

Little off topic but I bought a little keyboard you attach to your ps3 control pad very handy for chat with online stuff. It was also cheap something like £10

Good sound system for £50

Lol

The ps4 is launching next month and ps3's will be selling on eBay for pennies.

As for headphones just buy some cheap USB ones because it's likely that they won't be able to be used on the ps4 should you buy that in the future.

As for sound system the best you can get for under £100 are pc speakers so get ones with a optical input

I probably won't do anything online on PS3. I want to buy it only to play exactly 9 games (Uncharted 1,2,3; God of War 2,3; Gran Turismo 5; Heavy Rain; Beyond 2 Souls and The Last of Us) I prefer to play on PC as games are cheaper and they have much better graphics and I still can play on game-pad.

Well, I rather meant if I can have any decent sound system for that price (£50-£100). It's for my small room, not a salon. ;p

So, you are saying that after PS4 release PS3 price is going to fall down a lot? On eBay, do you thing that new PS3 consoles' price will drop? Maybe it's a good idea for me to hold on this purchase, and I'll be able to buy The last of us and Beyond 2 Souls cheaper as well.

About PS4 I'll probably won't buy it for quite long time, not until the console will get some good exclusives.

well I cannot say for sure the price would drop, but it's a pretty good educated guess that it will due to supply and demand.

demand will move to the ps4 not ps3, therefore retailers will slash prices to get rid of any ps3 stock they have to focus on the ps4.

how much it drops though could be anything?

i would be keeping an eye on hotukdeals in your shoes and looking for those very rare deals with low stock that pop up and ordering straight away.

e.g. a few years back dual shock 3's came up for £25 brand new, a mate bought one from game a few months back for £50 lol. obviously at that price the £25 DS3's sold out within a few hours.

so you need to be quick when deals pop up.

as for good sound system, the more you spend the better you get, £100 is what i would call budget system at best not good.

you could get some good 2.0 or 2.1 PC speaker system for that much, which for £100 would be decent, but i wouldn't be looking at home cinema systems for that price range.

I don't think so they will stay way above £50
£400 for the new consoles is out of reach for most kids

Buy a PS+ subscription.

I'm mainly a PC gamer, and probably like you're doing, use it mainly for the exclusives that aren't on PC. However, like others have said in other threads, PS+ has got me playing some excellent games that I otherwise would have probably totally overlooked.

Assuming you're going to at least keep hold of it for a year or so, a PS+ sub is the best money you'll spend.
