Flying planes a lot in BF2 and I wouldn't mind playing a real flying game with fighters though I have no clue what to get.

Any recommendations?

Falcon 4: Allied Force. Dynamic campaign rocks. About as close as you can get to a real war without shipping yourself off to the Balkans :p and if you find the gazillion types of SAM shooting at you is a bit much, there's all kinds of realism settings to tweak.

Lock On, the only choice.

Picked this up in town this afternoon - £2 - hope it lives up to what I've read about it. :)

Combat Flight Simukator 2 & 3 from Microsoft would also be a good port of call. - Both are very well supported with add-on aircraft scenery etc etc.

Theres also Combat Flight Simulator, again, well supported, but, its very old and shows it!

Hardly realistic (but hey, neither are the aircraft in Battlefield 2) Battlefield 1942 & the "Desert Combat" Mod. :)

Edit:

Forgot about IL-2 & Forgotten Battles by Ubisoft - The same people who made Lock on.

Do any of these games feel as fast paced as Flying in BF2?
I'm yet to find something where the planes are as responsive and fun to fly.

*watches topgun again*

The F-14 was designed for long range interception, not dogfighting :p

True, but I don't really worry about that when I watch the film :D

Its the best looking plane ever imo, for the sake of the film I couldn't care less whether that is what it is designed for :p

For modern air combat Falcon 4.0: Allied Force and LOMAC are the best, also Jane's F-18 if you're interested in something more dated. LOMAC has nicest graphics, but Falcon 4.0 has a superior campaign and avionic fidelity (and would be my recommendation).

For WW2 then the various IL2 games.

Do a 'Google' for Battle of Britain: Storms of War and see what you get! This is the next big sim to be released April this year (if it doesn't get moved again )

The guys who wrote this also Il-2 Sturmovik. Looks real impressive from all the WIP shots and video.

Lol, there's not a chance it'll be released in April.

Another vote for Battle of Britain II: Wings of Victory. Patched up it pretty much works, although there are still a couple of niggles. Very nice graphics, but its real advantage is the huge air wars, hundreds of aircraft in the sky at once.

I used to play these type of sims all the time - but is it me or is there a distinct lack of reality based simulators these days? I can't remember the last decent release.
