Hi All

Having stripped 15 year old heavily smoke stained wall paper from the walls of the lounge in the house we've just moved into, my girlfriend and I want to begin preparing the walls for painting.

For the most part the walls are in pretty good condition really but there are a few lumps and bumps we'd like to sort out, any recommendations for the best trype of filler to be using (ideally something I can get from Screwfix on the way home! ;))?

I've just finished doin wall and ceiling in the all purpose stuff from wickes, has come out pretty well. Was a huge sack but inside was just lots of individual packs :)

I shall give that a try in future, for this time Ijust got a couple of pots of ready mixed all purpose filler just so my girlfriend had something she could use to make a start on it. :)

It syas it doesn't need sanding, is that true or filthy lies? if it's true then I will definitely be investing in some as it always ends up being me that does the sanding to ensure it's perfect and if I can get out of doing it then it's worth the extra money!!! :)

If you apply it with skill yes doesn't need sanding even if it did it's one pass with a fine grade.

I think it reacts with the paint to go off.

I've not bought any other filler since

Would that have been this one?:

How easy is it to mix it to the right consistency? My girlfriend is home alone tomorrow and wants to get on but she's never mixed filler before...

Thats the one :)

I found the best way to mix was to add the powder to the water.
Mixed it as if I was cooking to the consistency of double cream them let it stand for 10/15mins before checking consistency, a little more powder and a little more time and it was pretty damn smooth, no lumps and easy as pie to slop about xD

Left the larger holes til the end and as the mix had somewhat stiffened just gobbed massive lumps into the holes where socket and the likes were previously.
