having just spent a LARGE wedge with Kerso (70-200F2.8L) i was wondering what the 1st filter you guys would get, wether a uv or cpl ??

Well what do you need? No point spending money if you dont need anything. As far as i know, UV filters are more for protecting the lens than anything, and dont really do much to your images. CP filters on the other hand produce lovely results, deeper saturated colours (dark blue skies), and removing reflections. But thats more suited to landscape photography i'd have thought -- and wide-angle lenses.

i intend doing most work at my local footie club so i suppose a cp would be useful but, i want to use it at the pool when my daughter is swimming competitions. would the cp affect exposure,i bought the 2.8 specifically for the pool work

A CPL will increase exposure times a lot or not so much depending on the quality of the filter. Also as you will be taking the shots indoors where the lighting will be no where near the brightness outside, your exposure times may be to long. I'd suggest a UV because, as said, CPLs are really most usefull for landscape shots.

Mind you, the CP would be great for cutting down reflections on the pool. Although if it's indoors i dont think it will do anything (no sunlight). And yes it will increase exposure times a fair amount.

I have a UV filter on all of my lenses simply as protection... I wouldnt have considered it as an option, one or the other, ive got both and keep the CPL in my bag for when its needed.
