Hay all.

Ok i looking into getting a license to able to keep and do target shooting with a muzzle loader musket.

But i am not sure what license i would need ?

I think all i would need is a (shot gun certificate) but i think will only let use antique muskets.

And if i wanted to use a (reproduction muzzle loader) i think i would need a Firearms license as it is made with modern parts.

I don't mind the antique muskets though but i think they would cost a lot then a reproduction version i could be wrong :)

Thanks for any advice.

Depending on whether the ammunition is 'readily available' will depend if it is an antique weapon therefore no license required, as soon as you own / shoot / assemble / think about using it you will need to put it on a firearms certificate / shotgun cert depending on smooth / rifled etc

I have a BSA cadet .310 which is an antique even though it has a martini henry action and is rifled, I could reload some ammunition but it would mean putting it straight on a firearms certificate however I just like it and it was cheap so I think I won't bother trying to fire it.

Most antique firearms are exempt from the firearms act in terms of a licence not being required if it's an ornament etc but you would need a licence to store black powder as it is an explosive and cannot be bought and sold without certification.

Check out section 58 of the Firearms Act which covers antiques and muzzle loaders. Your local firearms enquiry offer will keep you right and is worth contacting as well.

Thanks guy for the advice :D

I am going to do a lot more research into what sort of musket i am looking at buying then call up the local cop shop see what they say.

I do wan't to join a gun club as well but i cannot see any in or around luton area that let you shoot black power firearms
because they are indoor shooting ranges and it's some thing to do with the air filtering systems.

Cheers.

Thank you i will have a look into that later today :D

Is the bisley in surrey ? ( my gf got family down there so not a problem but if i can get to a place closer would be better.
And i don't think it's a good idea taking a gun to the mother inlaws lol you never know what will happen :(

I have a found a closer place called the Bedfordshire county rifle & pistol club association.
http://www.bedfordgunclub.co.uk/index.html

They seem to let use black power firearms but i am still not sure if you can just join a club or do i need join up with some thing else as well.

I sent the Bedfordshire county rifle & pistol club association a email on what i would like to do and see what advice they give me as welll :)

Thank you.

i got a email back from Bedfordshire gun club and going to pop in there friday and have a chat :)
