I’ve just got my new PC and boy does it run Counterstrike Source so much better than my old system!! Problem is, I don’t have broadband anymore – so need a good single player game to get going with. I think I’ve whittled it down to three based on how much I loved Halflife 1+2, anyone care to sway me either way?

1: Far Cry (Is it true this can be had for free?)
2: Call of Duty 2 (Bargain at £15 delivered)
3: Bioshock

Bioshock will certainly show off your new pc :)

pity it's short, not as inovative as previously mentioned (oddly enough by 2k) and about as linear as a roman road.

may i suggest the crysis beta if you havent already had a go (it looks superb on my system (which is not as good as yours))

1: tick, can be had for free now (but use ads to pay for it, so prepare to have maccy D's flashed up on the loading screens)
2: CoD 2 is a pretty solid game (not a personal favourite)
3: bioshock- as above tbh, don't get me wrong, it's a fun game, but it's a waste of a game, it could have been more

Also Bioshock requires you have an Internet connection to activate it. If you do then its a great game. Farcry is well worth a look too.

its closed now unless you can get a key from someone who is bored of it now.

FEAR
Stalker
CoD2

These games (particularly stalker) will give your system a good workout and are all good singleplayers!

Medal of honour Airbourne
FEAR
Company Of Heroes
Supreme Commander
Command & Conquer 3
Bioshock

I think you should start off with an old game, blitz it with all max settings and scale it up from there. Farcry is free and I havent seen any adverts on it yet
On the other hand, jumping into crysis might be a bit depressing because nothing will run that perfectly yet

ATM Crysis is neither non-broadband friendly nor is it a single player game

Out of the 3 in the original post then I'd probably go for Far Cry - visuals aren't that bad and it's a bit longer than Bioshock. I've no idea what COD2 is like - gave up on games like that after playing MOHAA/COD1 and all the publishers started turning them out evry 6 months like Madden/NHL titles
