What gains would you get via gaming, if going from 3.9Mhz to 4.2Mhz on a i7 920 ? and would 4.2 be a lot better helping 1 x 5970 & 1 x 5850 then 3.9mhz ?

Cheers.

Oh really.. even if you're running 1 x 5970 & 1 x 5850

I'm not going to comment on bottlenecking because it get's thrown around too much. A 3.4GHz AMD 965 can cope with a 5970, there's little need to overclock it towards 4GHz, same goes with the i7 from tests that have been produced already which BigWayne posted in a thread he created.

I'd say it mainly depends on what display you're using to get the general outcome of gains from your components.

I game @ 1920 x 1200

You have un-necessary gpu power to game at that resolution, are you moving up to Eyefinity at some point?

Well i play a lot of r factor, with f1 mods. even tho it runs smooth when driving the cars with my 5970. with 16 x aa on replys, it stutters when a lot of cars are together. i was testing with an added 5850, which got rid of that :) so maybe in some games it's over kill yes. but for rfactor max out, and even help with the min fps in bfc2, as when a lot goes on big time, the 5970 would drop a lot and u notice it, well i did anyways. with the 5850, it stoped that. so for me it isn't overkill for just them 2 games. yes i guess them 2 games are coded not so well maybe :D

I just wonderd if having the cpu clocked @ 4.2mhz from 3.9 would make any difference. guess not :)

Thanks for you're help anyways :)

Well this is for which is going to be my main pc now. it have a CO C1 stepping. and runs at 3.9 with 2.4 v max temps are 69. if you go higher to 4 with 1.34 ish, the temps go 90 lol.

So if it made a lot of difference @ 4.2. i was going to buy another i7, but the i7 920 DO stepping. not worth it i guess ?
