What Games Can I Play Well?

Hi all,
Sorry if this is a bit of a silly post, but I really don't know what games my computer could play well. I've seen people saying they can run COD4 on thier systems very well, and my system is of a higher spec overall.

I am a bit of a perfectionist in everything I do, and if I can't play a game at full quality settings (I suppose close to would do) I don't enjoy the game as much.

So, what I'm asking, is what games will run well on my system? System spec in sig.

Cheers,
Chris.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies, my main monitor's peak resolution is 1680 x 1050, but I will be getting a full HD one soon so I can edit full HD footage.

Does that change anything? I will probably get another 4850 X2 2GB when I upgrade my board, and with that a new Phenom. I know I need more RAM, but I don't want to buy any more DDR2 as I might be going DDR3 with the new board.

I would suggest not buying a second 4850X2 for several reasons:

- They are end-of-life
- They are pretty expensive
- Crossfire does not scale well with 4 gpus
- The power requirements will be massive
- a lot of extra heat
- The 4890 costs £140

I'd say upgrade your CPU too if you can - those Phenom 1s were pretty hot inefficent chips - getting an shiny new Phenom 2 would be very nice and they are pretty well priced at the moment.

Hey Andi,
I guess you're right there; I'm sure the technology will be way past my card soon, especially considering mine is only GDDR3. I'll migrate to another card when this one gets too old.

Well saying that, I've got my Phenom OC'd, and it's sitting at 51C at 1900RPM, so it's not too bad. It never goes above that either when stress testing, which is nice I guess. But yes, I will get a newer Phenom. They have a lot more cache which will help me no end, what with all my gaming and editing.

Just as a view point, my rig plays crysis around 25/30+ fps with everything on high and 8x AA, specs follow.

Windows XP Home
E7400 2.80GHz
PowerColor 4870 1GB
2GB GeiL Ultra

I assume you using Vista, so I should think that would drain fps a little.

Cheers Mr. Nick,
Yeah I'm on Vista full time now, with XP and Windows 7 RC on their for the sake of it. Vista has the latest DirectX though, which must be an advantage, but you're right that it will eat a bit more resources than XP. I do love XP, has done us all very well.
