I'm using a 12 year old wireless Xbox 360 controller, and it's been great, but it's tired and I fancy an upgrade.

The Xbox One controller seems the obvious choice, but then I started reading bad reviews about build quality worse than the 360. Then I wondered about forking out (the ridiculous price) for the Elite, and that too seems to have quality issues.

What controllers do people use, and would you recommend them?

Black 360 wired for me.

My XB1 controller i don't like. The triggers are shaped oddly, the bumpers require my fingers moving in a way that is not natural, and the material feels a bit poor.
I also found the PS3 triggers were poo.

So ultimately i'd get another 360 one, or a PS2 one (if they exist).

The Elite controller seems quite poor value to me. I just don't think the design is dialled in enough still, and obvious quality control issues is alarming for a £100 controller.

Black Xbox one wireless controller for me, brought it direct from Microsoft, who surprisingly were the cheapest, comes with a wire too if you prefer to use it that way.

Xbox 360 wired one for the PC, works fine for me, I do have a white Elite that I use with my Xbox but I've never tried to connect it to my PC.

I use one called EasySMX. Really good battery life and comfortable to hold for long periods and have no complaints with build quality either. Can be used with wire too and is also compatible with Android which helps as my Xbox controllers are the non-bluetooth ones.

My boys and I all have Xbox One Controllers - wireless. If they can stand their hammer they can stand anything.

For the PC/Xbox an Elite v2 because if I am going to be using a device often why not buy the best also an 8bitdo SN30+ for phone, Shield and Switch duties as can change modes easy for each device.

Couple of 360 wireless with play and charge. The battery's died in one of them though. May as well be wired.

Xbox 1 controller is good but noisier buttons than 360 version, also the rubber on sticks wears away quicker but you can get thumb stick covers cheaply. All in all 360 a better built controller IMO. But I still use the Xbox1 as my 360 one is so old now.

I think the 360 controller is great, apart from the D Pad. It's not impressive for games that need precise 8 directional control (thinking Streetfighter and SWOS via an Amiga emulator).
