Well there's not that many games available. But the one that's actually selling the Wii - Wii Sports
Which is weird, because when I see anyone playing even Sports, they don't run about getting "exercise". Boxing is by far the most energetic game, and even that is little more than basic aerobics for your arms.
Also, of all the people I know who own a Wii (and it's quite a few), none of them are parents who bought it for their kids to get exercise on. People aren't stupid. They still realise it's just a video games console, just with weird new controls.
The list is "in my opinion" and while it may not represent all Wii sales i'm willing to bet that it covers a large slab of sales along with the Hype factor
Ahhh, the beloved "hype" factor.
Oh no guys, I don't like the Wii, let's make up a reason it sells so well despite this! I know, HYPE FACTOR!?! The Wii isn't outselling the other consoles becuse it's fun, it's because those silly sheeple are buying into the HYPE. Never mind that it's been out for nearly a year and people have had plenty of time to try them out, it's the HYPE that's selling them! GIMMICK GIMMICK HYPE GIMMICK
Please.
The Wii is now the number one console because it's
fun. A console doesn't sell 17.5 million units on hype alone, because at some point people would stop. Just look at it, they're not.
You mean the very slowly emerging good games of yet another mario game etc. that could have been done on the Gamecube? Do you realise Nintendo have released the same set of games for every one of their consoles since the NES?
Is that opposed to those big, unique PS3 and 360 franchises like MGS, Halo, or Forza? Games that do little on their new platforms other than look nicer?
And if you're trying to tell me Mario Galaxy is the same game as Super Mario Bros 1, or even Mario bloody Sunshine, you're clearly mental.
Sociableness of local multiplayer is not exclusive to the Wii it's available on just about every other computer and console but only with more choice of games.
The 360 is only marginally less terrible than the old Xbox for four player plus games, the PS3 is just useless for them, and don't even try to tell me the PC is a viable option for gathering round or I'll laugh.
Admittedly the Wii isn't massively strong for four player games at the moment (It only has, oh, Sports, Mario Party, Monkey Ball, Eledees, Warioware, Bomberman, and maybe some other VC games currently), but I bought mine on the strength of the Gamecube, which utterly trumped the other two consoles in terms of games to sit around with a bunch of mates and have a laugh with.
What you call "the general fun of the new controls" i call a gimmick you will never beat a pad for Football and Racing or a Keyboard and Mouse for FPS and RTS games
That's weird, because I thought a steering wheel was "better" for controlling a racing game anyway.
Fair enough for you if you're not willing to try new ideas, but I quite like the uniqueness of the remote. A couple of the Sports games (tennis and bowling really) are sheer genius in how well they control with no buttons whatsoever, and utterly trump the old way of playing those games on joypads. Likewise Kororinpa is brilliant because of the remote, Excite Truck is made all the more enjoyable due the manicness of steering, and aiming to shoot in Metroid/Resident Evil adds far more immersion than simply making it prettier ever will.
I still love playing HL2 with the mouse+keyboard, and hopefully they really dedicate some time on the Wii PES, because it's still far better on the consoles for now, but I
also like how the Wii works too, because it's a cool alternative. If the games I've played work for me, who cares whether they could be controlled "better" on other systems? Would Excite Truck actually be as much fun if you just used a stick? I doubt it.
