What games should I buy?

I've always been into gaming a bit, but totally unsure what to buy now as I've been playing City of Heroes/Villains (MMORPG) for 2 years (plus a little Supreme Commander). Looking for a bit of a change now.

I'm looking for 1 or 2 decent FPS (preferably cheap ones too :P ) with single player offline as a must and online play as a nice addition to one of them.

I'm not too constrained by hardware (Q6600 at 3.45Ghz, X1950 at moment but 2900 soon, 2Gb RAM).

Your thoughts please!

I know you said Offline play is a must but, CSS is amazingly cheap and would be the nice addon you were requesting for online play.

Was looking at Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, is it any good?
 
I have never played it didnt seem my thing but lots of people on here loved it, there is one of the **Official** threads lurking around somewhere with 1000's of posts in it, so check that out.

C&C 3

maybe looking at a total war game , had the idea to throw some boulders at a castle lately but i dont have that kinda game :( + Steam doesn't have them anymore!

Agreed
Loved coh and supcom and a big fan c&c,but c&c3 never grabed me really not like coh and supcom, stalker wasn't to bad really some parts of gameplay ****** me of a bit, like weapons.
