I want a game with some eye candy. I don't want mad FPS at 1600x1200 4x AA, 16x AF, just something which will put my X800XT to the test at those levels. I know FEAR & Quake 4 are a good bet, but what else? Anything to look forward too in terms of eye candy in the near future. Project Offset look tasty! :D

COD2 is a good bet, although playing that at that res with it all the settings maxed will probably turn it into a slide show.

Quake 4 runs pretty well and looks great although I cant play it on Ultra with a 6800GT, A64 4000+,2GB 3200.

F.E.A.R also runs quite well but everything maxed @1280x1024 reduces framerate to 20 ish in places which isnt playable for my money so I usually turn shadows down and soft shadows off.

I think most of the latest games have enough settings to max up and make your gpu whimper in the corner of your pc if thats what you want, TBH im on the flipside at the moment, ive just installed fahrenheit and theif deadly shadows and its so refreshing to just install a game max out all the settings and have it run smooth as silk :) Thats also a plus of the 360 ;) , but there have been times when ive enjoyed the chalenge of getting a game optimised and running well rather than actually playing it :)

Oh, hav'nt tried it myself but told EQ2 is good gpu stresser.

FEAR will eat your card for breakfast, so while it will "push your GPU", the visuals won't actually be that impressive relative to the performance.

For pure visuals you could do a lot worse than a couple of 2004 titles in Far Cry and Halflife 2. FC will look stunning with the 64bit content at the settings you describe, although having an old ati card means you will have to miss out on HDR.

Yeah, i was thinking Doom III as the last time i tried it with a 6800 i wasn't really maxing the game out.

Painkiller should also be fun, albeit not as graphically intensive as DIII. :)

Trackmania nations - try this at high res, all the little effects turned on, all aa/af, unlimited amount of cars seen - all with top detail and you will see you card whimper.
You could probably run it at slightly lower settings that look just the same and run smooth lol - ohh ye shadows on complex is essential :D.

I've got a 1800xl which is waiting to have Oblivion thrown at it.

I think with DOD:S Hdr is only on certain maps.

Recently reinstalled morrowind and had 150fps without mods, I added loads of re-texturing mods etc, it now looks so good I keep getting lost because its so different and its dragged the fps down to 30ish

and yeah COD2 if you want to really push it and have a slide show

damn you lot and your fancy cards, if it werent for the fact i need to save like hell for uni id happily retire my 9800pro, id probably retire most of my pc actually
